Fulbright in Varanasi, India
I did a Fulbright Core Grant at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India in 2012. I worked with some great students and faculty there. Dr. Shailendra Gupta was the head of the Legal Aid Clinic. He formed a team of research students to study Legal Aid Clinics in India. Sumit Kapoor lead the students, presented on the work internationally and co-wrote an article with Shailendra and me. Legal Studies Association: This Missouri Western State University Student Organization LSA Advocates for Human Rights in a variety of ways. It brings in speakers and films on human rights. It sponsors clinics for low-income clients. Students participate in advocacy days with NGOs like ACLU and Missouri Promo. On these days students go to the legislature to advocate for progressive human rights changes in the law. LSA also sponsors faculty lead civil rights trips to destinations from Washington D.C. to Memphis, Tennessee. LSA has made a difference in student lives and the community.
